7-Minute Marshmallow Frosting Simple and Sweet Treat
Ingredients
- 2 large egg whites
- 0.25 teaspoon cream of tartar
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 0.33 cup water
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- a pinch salt
- optional food coloring
Instructions
- Begin by preparing a double boiler: fill a saucepan with about 1-2 inches of water and bring it to a simmer. Place a heatproof mixing bowl on top, making sure it does not touch the water.
- In the mixing bowl, combine the egg whites, cream of tartar, salt, and sugar.
- Gradually add the water to the mixture, stirring gently until combined.
- Place the bowl over the simmering water, and using an electric mixer, beat the mixture on high speed for about 7 minutes. The frosting will become glossy and form stiff peaks.
- Remove the bowl from heat carefully. Add the vanilla extract and mix gently to incorporate. If desired, add a few drops of food coloring and stir until the color is evenly distributed.
- Use immediately to frost your favorite cakes, cupcakes, or cookies. If the frosting is too soft, let it cool for a few minutes before applying.
💡 Chef's Notes
Use immediately for best results. Let cool if too soft.
