Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 0.5 cup cooked bacon, crumbled
  • 0.25 cup onion, finely chopped
  • 0.25 cup pickles, finely diced
  • 1 tablespoon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • to taste salt and pepper
  • 1 package refrigerated pizza dough (or crescent roll dough)
  • 1 egg beaten (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef until fully cooked, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat.
  3. Add the chopped onion, crumbled bacon, diced pickles, mustard, garlic powder, and onion powder to the skillet. Stir to combine and cook for an additional 2 minutes until the onions start to soften. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Remove from heat and let the mixture cool slightly.
  4. Roll out the pizza dough on a lightly floured surface and stretch it into a rectangle, about 12x18 inches. If using crescent dough, press the seams together to form a solid sheet.
  5. Spread the beef mixture evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the beef mixture.
  6. Starting from one end, carefully roll the dough into a tight log, making sure to tuck the filling as you go. Pinch the ends to seal the roll.
  7. Place the roll seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet. Brush the top of the roll with beaten egg to give it a golden sheen while baking.
  8. Using a sharp knife, make a few diagonal slashes on top of the roll for ventilation.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the roll is golden brown.
  10. Let cool for a few minutes before slicing into 1-inch pieces and serving.

💡 Chef's Notes

Serve warm with a side of ketchup and mustard for dipping. Garnish with fresh parsley for a pop of color.
