Ingredients

  • 6 pieces pork sausages (your choice of flavor)
  • 1 pound Yukon Gold potatoes, peeled and chopped
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 piece onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh thyme leaves (or 1 teaspoon dried thyme)
  • to taste Salt and pepper
  • as needed Gravy (store-bought or homemade) for serving

Instructions

  1. Place the chopped Yukon Gold potatoes in a large pot of salted water. Boil over medium-high heat until the potatoes are tender, about 15-20 minutes. Drain and return to the pot.
  2. Add the whole milk and 2 tablespoons of butter to the drained potatoes. Mash until smooth and creamy. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Keep warm while you prepare the sausages.
  3. In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat. Add the sausages and cook until browned all over, about 10-12 minutes. Once cooked, transfer the sausages to a plate and keep warm.
  4. In the same skillet, add the sliced onions and cook for about 5 minutes until softened. Add the minced garlic and thyme, cooking for an additional 2 minutes until fragrant. Season with salt and pepper.
  5. Return the sausages to the skillet, mixing with the onions and garlic for a minute to heat through. Serve the sausages over the creamy mashed potatoes, drizzling with gravy, and topping with the sautéed onions.

💡 Chef's Notes

Use a shallow bowl to plate the mashed potatoes, create a small well in the center, and place the sausages upright. Drizzle the gravy around the plate and garnish with fresh thyme for an elegant touch.
