Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 0.5 cup breadcrumbs
  • 0.25 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
  • to taste salt and pepper
  • 1 jar (24 oz) marinara sauce
  • 4 sub rolls
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • for garnish fresh basil leaves

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, egg, minced garlic, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.
  3. Shape the beef mixture into meatballs, about 1.5 inches in diameter.
  4. In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the meatballs on all sides, about 5 minutes.
  5. Pour the marinara sauce over the meatballs in the skillet. Cover and simmer for 15 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
  6. While the meatballs are simmering, split sub rolls and place them on a baking sheet.
  7. Once the meatballs are cooked through, use a slotted spoon to place several meatballs in each sub roll. Spoon some of the marinara sauce over the top.
  8. Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese over the meatballs in each sub roll.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  10. Once done, remove from the oven and let cool slightly. Garnish with fresh basil leaves before serving.

💡 Chef's Notes

Serve on a wooden board lined with parchment paper and sprinkle extra basil for color. You can also accompany it with a side of potato chips or a small salad for a complete meal.
