Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup warm milk (110°F)
  • 0.5 cup granulated sugar
  • 0.25 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 tsp)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (for icing)
  • 2 tablespoons cream cheese, softened (for icing)
  • 2 tablespoons milk (for icing)
  • 0.5 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, mix the warm milk, a pinch of sugar, and yeast. Allow it to sit for about 5-7 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of flour, sugar, and salt. Create a well in the center and add the yeast mixture, melted butter, and eggs. Gradually mix in the remaining flour, incorporating it until a soft dough forms.
  3. Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes, adding more flour as needed until the dough is smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean cloth, and let it rise in a warm area for about 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
  5. In a small bowl, mix together brown sugar, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt. Set aside.
  6. Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle (about 16 x 24 inches) with the long side facing you.
  7. Brush the rolled-out dough with melted butter, then evenly sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture over the top, leaving a small border around the edges.
  8. Starting from the long end, carefully roll the dough tightly into a log. Slice the log into 12 equal pieces.
  9. Place the rolls in a greased baking dish, cover with a cloth, and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
  10. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) during the last 10 minutes of the second rise.
  11. Bake the rolls in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
  12. While the rolls are baking, mix together the powdered sugar, softened cream cheese, milk, and vanilla extract in a small bowl until smooth.
  13. Once the rolls are out of the oven and still warm, drizzle the cream cheese icing over the top generously.
  14. Enjoy the rolls warm or at room temperature!

💡 Chef's Notes

For best results, ensure the milk is warm but not hot when activating the yeast.
