Brown Sugar Glazed Ham: A Delectable Centerpiece for Your Gatherings
Ingredients
- 1 whole fully cooked bone-in ham (about 6-8 pounds)
- 1 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1 2 honey
- 1 4 Dijon mustard
- 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 2 ground ginger
- 1 4 ground cloves
- to taste freshly cracked black pepper
- optional whole cloves for studding
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C).
- Place the ham in a large roasting pan, flat side down. If desired, use toothpicks or whole cloves to stud the surface of the ham for a decorative effect.
- In a medium bowl, mix together the brown sugar, honey, Dijon mustard, apple cider vinegar, ground cinnamon, ginger, cloves, and black pepper until smooth. This will be your glaze.
- Using a basting brush, generously apply the glaze over the surface of the ham, ensuring you get into any nooks and crannies.
- Cover the ham loosely with aluminum foil to prevent it from drying out.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 15 minutes per pound, or until heated through (20-25 minutes if using a glazed ham). Uncover the ham during the last 30 minutes of cooking time to allow the glaze to caramelize and crisp up a bit, basting frequently with any pan juices.
- Once heated through and caramelized, remove the ham from the oven and let it rest for about 15 minutes before slicing. This helps the juices redistribute.
- Slice the ham into thick slices and serve warm, drizzled with any remaining glaze from the pan.
💡 Chef's Notes
Arrange the slices on a large platter and garnish with fresh herbs like rosemary or thyme for a festive look. You can also serve with seasonal fruits like sliced oranges or apples on the side for color and flavor contrast.
