Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 2.25 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups chocolate chips (semi-sweet or dark)
  • 0.5 cup chopped nuts (optional, such as walnuts or pecans)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar using an electric mixer until light and fluffy. This should take about 2-3 minutes.
  3. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until fully incorporated.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add this dry mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined (do not overmix).
  5. Gently fold in the chocolate chips and nuts (if using).
  6. Use a spoon or cookie scoop to drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are golden but the centers look slightly underbaked. They will continue to cook as they cool.
  8. Remove from the oven and let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

💡 Chef's Notes

Arrange the cookies in a stack on a decorative plate and serve warm, with a glass of milk on the side, for a cozy treat.
