Chinese Beef and Onion Stir-Fry Quick and Easy Recipe
Ingredients
- 500 g beef sirloin, thinly sliced against the grain
- 2 large onions, thinly sliced
- 1 whole bell pepper, sliced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 inch piece ginger, grated
- 3 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce (optional, for flavor)
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 3 tablespoons vegetable oil (divided)
- to taste salt and pepper
- 3 whole green onions, chopped for garnish
- optional sesame seeds for garnish
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine the sliced beef with soy sauce, oyster sauce, brown sugar, and cornstarch. Mix well to coat the beef and let it marinate for at least 15 minutes.
- Heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a large wok or skillet over medium-high heat. Add the marinated beef in a single layer and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until browned but not fully cooked. Remove from the wok and set aside.
- In the same wok, add the remaining tablespoon of oil. Add the sliced onions and cook for 4-5 minutes, stirring frequently, until they begin to soften and caramelize.
- Add the minced garlic, grated ginger, and sliced bell pepper to the pan. Stir-fry for another 2-3 minutes until fragrant and the bell pepper is slightly tender.
- Return the partially cooked beef to the wok, along with any juices that have accumulated. Stir-fry everything together for an additional 3-4 minutes, allowing the beef to finish cooking and the flavors to meld. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Once the beef is cooked through and the onions are perfectly caramelized, remove from heat.
- Serve hot, garnished with chopped green onions and sesame seeds if using.
