Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 4 slices beef bacon
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 1 bell pepper diced (any color)
  • 4 slices American cheese
  • 4 hoagie rolls or hero bread
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • to taste salt and pepper
  • optional toppings: lettuce, tomato slices, jalapeños, and mayonnaise

Instructions

  1. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the beef bacon until crispy. Once done, remove from the skillet and set aside on paper towels to absorb excess grease.
  2. In the same pan, add the olive oil, then add the diced onion and bell pepper. Sauté until the vegetables are softened and slightly caramelized, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Push the vegetables to one side of the skillet, then add the ground beef to the other side. Cook the beef, breaking it apart with a spatula until browned and cooked through, about 7-10 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.
  4. Combine the sautéed onions and peppers with the ground beef, mixing well.
  5. Lay the cheese slices over the beef mixture and let it melt (you can cover the pan for faster melting).
  6. While the cheese is melting, toast the hoagie rolls on a separate skillet or in the oven until golden.
  7. Assemble the sandwiches: on each roll, add a generous portion of the chopped cheese and beef bacon mixture, topped with crispy beef bacon slices.
  8. Add optional toppings like lettuce, tomato slices, jalapeños, and a spread of mayonnaise if desired.
  9. Close the sandwich, slice in half if preferred, and serve hot.

💡 Chef's Notes

Serve the sandwiches with a side of potato chips or fries. Use parchment paper to wrap the sandwiches for a casual feel, and garnish plates with pickles for an added touch.
