Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 sleeve saltine crackers
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 0.5 teaspoon sea salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 0.5 cup crushed candy canes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil or parchment paper, and spread the saltine crackers in a single layer across the sheet.
  3. In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter and brown sugar together. Stir constantly until the mixture comes to a gentle boil. Allow it to boil for 3 minutes without stirring.
  4. Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in vanilla extract. Pour the butter-sugar mixture evenly over the saltine crackers.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven for 5-7 minutes, just until the liquid is bubbly and begins to caramelize.
  6. Remove from the oven and immediately sprinkle the chocolate chips over the top. Allow the chips to sit for a couple of minutes until they soften.
  7. Once softened, use a spatula to spread the melted chocolate to create an even layer. Sprinkle the chopped pecans and sea salt over the top.
  8. For added festive flair, sprinkle the crushed candy canes on top as well.
  9. Allow the holiday crack to cool completely at room temperature, or place it in the refrigerator to speed up the cooling process.
  10. Once set, break into pieces and serve or package them in festive tins for gift giving.

💡 Chef's Notes

Arrange the broken pieces in a decorative bowl or tin lined with festive paper. Add a few sprigs of fresh rosemary or holly on top for an extra holiday touch.
