Country Meat and Mashed Potatoes Casserole Delight
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef or turkey
- 1 unit onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 cups mixed vegetables (carrots, peas, corn)
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- to taste unit Salt and pepper
- 4 large russet potatoes, peeled and cubed
- 0.5 cup milk
- 4 tablespoons butter
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- for garnish unit Fresh parsley, chopped
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Place the cubed potatoes in a large pot and cover with water. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer and cook for 15-20 minutes until tender. Drain and return to the pot.
- Add the milk and butter to the potatoes. Mash them until creamy and season with salt and pepper to taste. Set aside.
- In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef or turkey, onion, and garlic. Cook until the meat is browned and the onion is translucent, about 7-10 minutes.
- Stir in the mixed vegetables, dried thyme, Worcestershire sauce, and season with salt and pepper. Cook for an additional 5 minutes until the vegetables are heated through.
- In a greased 9x13 inch baking dish, spread the meat and vegetable mixture evenly across the bottom. Top with the mashed potatoes, smoothing them out with a spatula.
- Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the mashed potatoes.
- Place the casserole in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Once baked, remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley before serving.
