Creamy Garlic Butter Steak Bites with Mashed Potatoes
Ingredients
- 1 pound sirloin steak, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, divided
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon fresh thyme, chopped (or ½ teaspoon dried thyme)
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- to taste salt and pepper
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
- 2 pounds russet potatoes, peeled and cubed
- 0.5 cup milk (or more as needed)
- 2 tablespoons sour cream
- 0.5 teaspoon garlic powder
- to taste salt
Instructions
- Place the cubed potatoes into a large pot and cover with water. Add a pinch of salt and bring to a boil. Cook until the potatoes are tender, about 15-20 minutes. Drain and return to the pot.
- Add milk, sour cream, garlic powder, and salt to the drained potatoes. Mash until smooth and creamy. Adjust the consistency with more milk if needed. Set aside and keep warm.
- In a large skillet over medium-high heat, melt 2 tablespoons of butter. Season the steak pieces with salt, pepper, and paprika. Add the steak bites to the skillet in a single layer (work in batches if needed) and sear for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown. Remove the steak from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter. Once melted, add the minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 30 seconds. Stir in the fresh thyme and cook for another minute.
- Pour in the heavy cream and Worcestershire sauce, stirring well to combine. Let the sauce simmer for about 2-3 minutes until it thickens slightly. Return the cooked steak bites to the skillet and toss to coat in the creamy garlic sauce.
- Serve the creamy garlic butter steak bites over a generous scoop of mashed potatoes. Drizzle any remaining sauce over the top and garnish with chopped parsley.
💡 Chef's Notes
Adjust the consistency of the mashed potatoes with more milk if needed.
