Delicious French Onion Meatloaf Juicy Comfort Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1/2 lb ground pork
- 1 cup French onion soup
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 cup shredded Gruyère cheese
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- to taste Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large skillet over medium heat, add a little olive oil and sauté the finely chopped onion until golden brown and caramelized, about 8-10 minutes. Add the minced garlic and sauté for an additional minute. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, cooked onions and garlic, French onion soup, Worcestershire sauce, egg, dried thyme, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined; avoid overmixing.
- Gently fold in 3/4 cup of the shredded Gruyère cheese into the meat mixture for that cheesy flavor throughout.
- Transfer the mixture into a greased loaf pan, shaping it into a loaf form.
- Spread the remaining 1/4 cup of shredded Gruyère cheese evenly on top of the meatloaf.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 1 hour, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (70°C) and the cheese is bubbly and golden.
- Once cooked, let the meatloaf rest for 10 minutes before slicing. This helps retain its juices.
- Serve the slices warm, garnished with freshly chopped parsley for a pop of color.
💡 Chef's Notes
Serve alongside creamy mashed potatoes and a simple green salad for a wholesome meal. Consider drizzling some additional French onion soup over the meatloaf slices for added flavor.
