Delicious Meatball Sub Recipe for a Tasty Meal
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef (or a mix of beef and pork)
- 1 cup breadcrumbs (preferably Italian-seasoned)
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
- 1 large egg
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- to taste salt and pepper
- 1 cup marinara sauce (store-bought or homemade)
- 4 sub rolls hoagie rolls
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- for brushing Olive oil
- optional sliced jalapeños for added heat
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, parsley, egg, minced garlic, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly until well combined.
- Shape the mixture into 1.5-inch meatballs and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Bake the meatballs in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until they are golden brown and cooked through.
- While the meatballs are baking, heat the marinara sauce in a saucepan over medium heat until warmed through.
- Once the meatballs are done, remove them from the oven and allow them to cool slightly. Then, gently place them in the warm marinara sauce and coat them well.
- Slice the sub rolls down the center without cutting all the way through. Lightly brush the outside of the rolls with olive oil and place them on a baking sheet.
- Fill each sub roll with a generous amount of meatballs and sauce. Top with a handful of shredded mozzarella cheese.
- Broil the loaded subs in the oven for about 2-3 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly. Keep a close eye to prevent burning!
- Remove from the oven, and if desired, add sliced jalapeños on top for an added kick of flavor.
