Ingredients

  • 500 g minced meat (lamb or chicken)
  • 2 medium potatoes, peeled and diced
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 2 medium tomatoes, chopped
  • 2 medium green chilies, slit (adjust to taste)
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 inch piece ginger, grated
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 0.5 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder (adjust to taste)
  • 0.5 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • to taste salt
  • for garnish fresh coriander leaves
  • 0.5 cup water (add more if needed)

Instructions

  1. Heat the vegetable oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add the cumin seeds and let them sizzle for a few seconds.
  2. Add the chopped onions and sauté until they are soft and golden brown. Stir in the minced garlic and grated ginger; cook for an additional 2 minutes.
  3. Incorporate the chopped tomatoes and green chilies into the mixture. Cook until the tomatoes soften, about 5 minutes.
  4. Add the minced meat to the pan, breaking it up with a spoon. Cook until browned and fully cooked, about 7-10 minutes.
  5. Stir in the potatoes, turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, and salt. Mix well to coat the potatoes and the meat with the spices.
  6. Pour in the water and bring the mixture to a boil. Cover the pan and reduce the heat to low, cooking until the potatoes are tender and have absorbed the flavors, about 15-20 minutes.
  7. Once the potatoes are cooked, sprinkle garam masala over the top and gently mix. Adjust seasoning if necessary.
  8. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves before serving.
