Ingredients

  • 1 pound pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 cup marinara sauce
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 1 2 cup provolone cheese, shredded
  • 1 2 cup bell peppers, diced (red and green)
  • 1 2 cup mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 4 cup red onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 4 cup black olives, sliced
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 egg beaten (for egg wash)
  • to taste salt and pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the pizza dough into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.
  3. Spread the marinara sauce evenly on the dough, leaving a border around the edges.
  4. In a mixing bowl, combine the mozzarella, provolone, bell peppers, mushrooms, red onion, and black olives. Add the Italian seasoning, and season with salt and pepper to taste. Mix well.
  5. Sprinkle the cheese and veggie mixture over the marinara sauce.
  6. Carefully roll the dough from one long side to the other, creating a tight log. Pinch the edges to seal the filling inside.
  7. Place the rolled stromboli seam side down on a lined baking sheet.
  8. Brush the top with beaten egg for a golden finish.
  9. Using a sharp knife, make a few slits on the top of the stromboli to allow steam to escape.
  10. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and fully cooked.
  11. Remove from the oven and let it rest for a few minutes before slicing. Serve warm with extra marinara sauce on the side for dipping.
