Homemade Apple Pie Delight Easy and Tasty Recipe
Ingredients
- 6 cups mixed apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, and Fuji), peeled, cored, and sliced
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, diced
- 1 egg beaten (for egg wash)
- 2 tablespoons milk (for egg wash)
- 2 pie crusts homemade or store-bought
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and cornstarch. Gently toss until the apples are well coated. Let the mixture sit for about 15 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
- Roll out one pie crust and fit it into a 9-inch pie plate. Trim any excess crust hanging over the edges.
- Pour the apple mixture into the pie crust, spreading it evenly. Dot the filling with diced butter to enhance the richness of the apples.
- Roll out the second pie crust and place it over the apple filling. Seal the edges by crimping them with your fingers or a fork. Cut small slits or create a lattice pattern on the top crust to allow steam to escape.
- In a small bowl, mix the beaten egg with the milk. Brush this mixture over the top crust for a beautiful golden finish.
- Bake the pie in the preheated oven for 15 minutes. Then, reduce the temperature to 350°F (175°C) and continue to bake for an additional 35-45 minutes, or until the apples are soft and the crust is golden brown.
- Once baked, remove the pie from the oven and allow it to cool for at least 30 minutes before slicing. This will help the filling set up nicely.
