Ingredients

  • 8 cups popped popcorn (approximately 1/2 cup unpopped kernels)
  • 1 cup M&M’s® chocolate candies
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 2 cups unsalted butter
  • 1 4 cup corn syrup
  • 1 2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 4 teaspoon baking soda

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 250°F (120°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, place your popped popcorn and M&M’s®; mix them gently to combine.
  3. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the brown sugar, butter, corn syrup, and salt. Stir continuously until the butter has melted and the mixture comes to a boil.
  4. Once boiling, let it cook for 4 to 5 minutes without stirring. Remove from heat.
  5. Stir in the vanilla extract and baking soda, which will cause the mixture to bubble up. Mix well to ensure everything is combined.
  6. Pour the caramel mixture over the popcorn and M&M’s®. Using a spatula or your hands (greased with cooking oil), gently mix until all the popcorn is well coated.
  7. With greased hands, form the popcorn mixture into balls about the size of a golf ball and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  8. Bake the popcorn balls in the preheated oven for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally to ensure even coating.
  9. Remove from the oven and let them cool completely before serving.

💡 Chef's Notes

Stack the popcorn balls in a clear glass bowl, sprinkle additional M&M’s® and colorful sprinkles on top for a festive look, and serve with festive napkins. Enjoy!
