Mozzarella Sticks That Delight with Flavor and Crunch
Ingredients
- 12 sticks mozzarella sticks (string cheese)
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tablespoon water
- 1 cup breadcrumbs (preferably Italian style)
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- to taste salt and pepper
- as needed oil for frying (canola or vegetable)
- as needed marinara sauce for dipping (optional)
Instructions
- Begin by cutting each mozzarella stick in half if you prefer shorter sticks. Set them aside.
- Prepare a breading station: Place the flour on one plate, beat the eggs with water in a bowl, and combine breadcrumbs with garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, salt, and pepper on another plate.
- Dredge each mozzarella stick in flour and shake off the excess.
- Dip the floured stick into the egg mixture, ensuring it is fully coated.
- Roll the stick in the seasoned breadcrumbs, pressing lightly to adhere, and place it on a plate. Repeat the process with all mozzarella sticks.
- Freeze the coated sticks for at least 30 minutes (this step helps prevent the cheese from melting too quickly while frying).
- Heat oil in a deep skillet or a deep fryer over medium-high heat until it reaches around 350°F (175°C).
- Fry the mozzarella sticks in batches for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Avoid overcrowding the pan to ensure even cooking.
- Remove the sticks with a slotted spoon and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil.
- Serve warm with marinara sauce on the side for dipping.
