One Pot Spicy Sausage Pasta: A Culinary Adventure
Ingredients
- 8 ounces spaghetti or penne pasta
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 pound spicy Italian sausage, casings removed
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 red bell pepper, diced
- 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
- 1 can (14.5 ounces) diced tomatoes, with juices
- 4 cups chicken broth
- 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
- to taste salt and pepper
- 1 cup fresh spinach
- 1 4 grated Parmesan cheese (for serving)
- as needed fresh basil leaves (for garnish)
Instructions
- In a large pot or deep skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
- Add the spicy Italian sausage to the pot, breaking it up with a wooden spoon. Cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes.
- Stir in the diced onion, garlic, and red bell pepper. Sauté for 3-4 minutes until the vegetables are softened.
- Sprinkle in the red pepper flakes and stir for another minute to release the flavor.
- Pour in the can of diced tomatoes with their juices, chicken broth, and Italian seasoning. Stir to combine.
- Bring the mixture to a boil, then add the pasta. Stir to ensure the pasta is submerged in the liquid.
- Reduce the heat to a simmer and cover the pot. Cook for about 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the pasta is al dente and most of the liquid has absorbed.
- Stir in the fresh spinach and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until wilted.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Serve hot, garnished with grated Parmesan cheese and fresh basil leaves.
