Philly Cheesesteak Stromboli Tasty and Filling Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef or ribeye steak, thinly sliced
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 1 medium green bell pepper, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup provolone cheese, shredded
- 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
- 1 package pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 1 egg beaten (for egg wash)
- optional sliced hot peppers for added heat
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- In a large skillet over medium heat, add the olive oil. Once hot, add the chopped onion and bell pepper. Sauté for about 5 minutes until softened.
- Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.
- Add the ground beef (or ribeye steak) to the skillet. Cook until browned, about 7-10 minutes. Break it up with a spatula as you cook.
- Stir in the Worcestershire sauce, salt, black pepper, and Italian seasoning. Mix well and cook for another minute, then remove from heat.
- Roll out the pizza dough on a lightly floured surface into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.
- Spread the meat mixture evenly over the dough, leaving about an inch border around the edges.
- Sprinkle both provolone and mozzarella cheese over the meat mixture. If desired, add sliced hot peppers for extra flavor.
- Starting from one of the long sides, carefully roll the dough up tightly into a log shape. Pinch the edges to seal and tuck in the ends.
- Place the stromboli seam-side down on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush the top with the beaten egg to give it a golden finish.
- Using a sharp knife, make a few diagonal slits on top of the stromboli to allow steam to escape.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the stromboli is golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and let it cool for 5-10 minutes before slicing.
