Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 0.25 cup breadcrumbs
  • 0.25 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • to taste Salt and pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 cups mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • for garnish Fresh parsley, chopped

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, thyme, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.
  2. Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each into an oval patty, about 1 inch thick.
  3. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the patties to the skillet and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side until they are browned and cooked through. Remove the patties from the skillet and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, add the sliced mushrooms and sauté for about 5 minutes until they are golden and softened. Sprinkle the flour over the mushrooms and stir to coat for about 1 minute.
  5. Gradually stir in the beef broth, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the skillet. Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook for about 3-4 minutes until the gravy thickens.
  6. Return the cooked patties to the skillet, spooning the mushroom gravy over them. Let it simmer together for another 2-3 minutes to meld the flavors.
  7. Taste and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper if needed.
