Ingredients

  • 2 cups milk (or any dairy-free alternative)
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon sea salt (plus extra for topping)
  • 1/4 cup store-bought or homemade caramel sauce
  • 1 serving whipped cream, for topping

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine the milk and heavy cream over medium heat. Stir occasionally until warm but not boiling.
  2. Whisk in the cocoa powder and sugar until fully dissolved, followed by the semi-sweet chocolate chips. Continue to stir until melted and smooth.
  3. Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the vanilla extract and sea salt until well incorporated.
  4. Drizzle half of the caramel sauce into the hot chocolate and stir to combine.
  5. Pour the hot chocolate into mugs and top with a generous swirl of whipped cream.
  6. Drizzle the remaining caramel sauce over the whipped cream and finish with a sprinkle of sea salt on top for that perfect salted caramel flavor.
  7. Serve warm and enjoy your indulgent creation!

💡 Chef's Notes

For a dairy-free version, use almond milk or coconut milk.
