Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup cooked beef, chopped or shredded
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup buttermilk (or milk + 1 tablespoon vinegar)
  • 0 none Fresh herbs (such as chives or parsley), for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish or a large cast-iron skillet.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, garlic powder, and salt until well combined.
  3. Fold in the shredded cheddar cheese and cooked beef until evenly distributed throughout the flour mixture.
  4. In a separate bowl, combine the melted butter and buttermilk, stirring well.
  5. Pour the buttermilk mixture into the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined. The dough will be slightly sticky.
  6. Spoon the dough into the prepared baking dish or skillet, ensuring it is spread evenly across the bottom and mounding slightly in the center.
  7. Drizzle any remaining melted butter over the top of the dough.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown and cooked through.
  9. Remove from the oven and let cool for 5 minutes before slicing into squares or wedges.
  10. Garnish with fresh herbs before serving.

💡 Chef's Notes

Serve warm straight from the skillet or baking dish. Drizzle extra melted butter over the biscuits before serving for added richness.
