Savory Steak Sandwich with Garlic Aioli Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 lb flank steak
- 4 ciabatta rolls
- 1 cup arugula (or spinach)
- 1 medium tomato, sliced
- 1 small red onion, thinly sliced
- to taste salt and pepper
- for grilling olive oil
- 1 cup mayonnaise
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- to taste salt and pepper
Instructions
- Prepare the Garlic Aioli: In a small bowl, combine the mayonnaise, minced garlic, lemon juice, Dijon mustard, salt, and pepper. Whisk until smooth and creamy. Adjust seasoning to taste, then refrigerate to let the flavors meld.
- Cook the Steak: Preheat your grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Season the flank steak with olive oil, salt, and pepper on both sides. Grill the steak for about 4-5 minutes each side for medium-rare, depending on thickness. Use a meat thermometer to ensure the internal temperature is around 130°F. Remove from heat and let rest for 5-10 minutes.
- Slice the Steak: After resting, slice the flank steak against the grain into thin strips. This will help maintain tenderness and make it easier to bite into the sandwich.
- Toast the Ciabatta Rolls: While the steak is resting, cut the ciabatta rolls in half and toast them on the grill or in a toaster till golden brown.
- Assemble the Sandwich: Spread a generous amount of garlic aioli on the inside of each ciabatta roll. Layer the arugula, slices of grilled steak, tomato, and red onion on the bottom half of each roll.
- Finish and Serve: Place the top half of the roll over the fillings, pressing down gently. Serve immediately, offering extra garlic aioli on the side for dipping if desired.
