Sloppy Joe Grilled Cheese Delight: A Comfort Food Fusion
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef or plant-based substitute
- 0.5 cup onion, finely chopped
- 0.5 cup bell pepper, finely chopped
- 0.5 cup ketchup
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- to taste salt and pepper
- 4 slices sourdough or thick-cut bread
- 1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
- 1 tablespoon butter
Instructions
- In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef or plant-based substitute. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula, about 5-7 minutes.
- Add the finely chopped onion and bell pepper to the skillet. Sauté until the veggies are softened, approximately 3-4 minutes.
- Stir in the ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix well and let it simmer for about 10 minutes until thickened.
- Meanwhile, heat a separate nonstick skillet over medium heat. Spread butter on one side of each slice of bread.
- Place two slices of bread butter-side down in the skillet, and layer half of the shredded cheddar cheese on each.
- Spoon the sloppy joe mixture generously over the melted cheese, then top with the remaining cheddar cheese.
- Place the other slices of bread on top, butter-side up. Cook for 3-5 minutes or until golden brown, then carefully flip the sandwiches and cook the other side until golden and the cheese is melted.
- Remove from the skillet, let cool for a minute, and slice in half to reveal the gooey cheesy goodness.
