Snickerdoodle Apple Pie Bars Tasty Dessert Recipe
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 0.5 cups granulated sugar
- 0.5 cups unsalted butter, softened
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 0.5 teaspoon baking soda
- 0.5 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 2 cups peeled and diced apples
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 0.5 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 0.25 cups granulated sugar for topping
- 1 tablespoon cinnamon for topping
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking pan.
- In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and ground cinnamon.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until a soft dough forms.
- Reserve about 1/2 cup of the dough for topping, and evenly spread the remaining dough in the prepared baking pan, pressing it down firmly.
- In another bowl, combine the diced apples with lemon juice, nutmeg, and a sprinkle of cinnamon. Mix well, then spread the apple mixture over the dough in the pan.
- Crumble the reserved dough over the apple mixture, ensuring it covers most of the apples for a lovely crusty topping.
- In a small bowl, mix the remaining granulated sugar with cinnamon and sprinkle it generously over the top of the bars.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Allow to cool in the pan on a wire rack for at least 20 minutes before slicing into bars.
💡 Chef's Notes
Allow bars to cool before slicing for cleaner cuts.
