Strawberry Cinnamon Rolls Simple Sweet Delight
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
- 1 quarter cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 half cup milk, warmed
- 1 quarter cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- 1 cup fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 3 tablespoons cream cheese, softened
- 1 half cup powdered sugar
- 1 tablespoon milk (for icing)
Instructions
- In a small bowl, combine the warmed milk and the active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, and salt.
- Add the melted butter and egg to the yeast mixture and stir well. Then, pour this mixture into the dry ingredients and mix until a dough forms.
- Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic.
- Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- In a separate bowl, mash the sliced strawberries with ground cinnamon and brown sugar to create a spreadable filling.
- Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out into a rectangular shape (about 1/4 inch thick).
- Generously spread the strawberry mixture over the dough.
- Starting from one edge, tightly roll the dough into a log. Cut the log into 12 equal pieces.
- Place the cinnamon roll pieces in a greased baking dish. Cover them again and let them rise for an additional 30 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) while the rolls are rising.
- Once risen, bake the rolls in the preheated oven for about 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
- While the rolls are baking, whisk together the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and milk until smooth and creamy.
- Once the rolls are out of the oven, let them cool for a few minutes then drizzle the cream cheese icing over the top before serving.
