The BEST Sausage Breakfast Casserole Irresistible Dish
Ingredients
- 1 pound breakfast sausage, crumbled
- 6 large eggs
- 2 cups milk
- 4 cups cubed day-old bread (sourdough or French bread)
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 0.5 cup diced bell peppers (red and green)
- 0.5 cup diced onion
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with non-stick spray or olive oil.
- In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the crumbled sausage until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes. Use a spatula to break it apart as it cooks. Remove excess grease if necessary and set aside to cool slightly.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, garlic powder, oregano, salt, and black pepper until well combined.
- Add the cooked sausage, cubed bread, diced bell peppers, diced onion, and half of the shredded cheddar cheese to the egg mixture. Stir until everything is evenly coated.
- Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread it out evenly. Top with the remaining cheddar cheese.
- Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes.
- After 30 minutes, remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and the casserole is set in the center. A toothpick inserted should come out clean.
- Remove from the oven and let it sit for 5 minutes before cutting. Garnish with chopped parsley for a pop of color.
