Vegan Steamed Dumplings Flavorful and Easy Recipe
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 3.75 cups boiling water
- 1 cup finely chopped cabbage
- 1 cup grated carrots
- 0.5 cup mushrooms, finely chopped
- 0.25 cup green onions, chopped
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 teaspoon ginger, minced
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- to taste salt and pepper
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine the flour with boiling water gradually, stirring with a fork until the mixture comes together.
- Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth. Cover with a damp cloth and let it rest for 30 minutes.
- While the dough is resting, prepare the filling. In a large bowl, combine chopped cabbage, grated carrots, mushrooms, green onions, soy sauce, sesame oil, ginger, garlic, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly to combine all the flavors.
- After resting, divide the dough into small balls (about the size of a golf ball) and roll each ball into a thin circular wrapper, about 3 to 4 inches in diameter.
- Place a tablespoon of filling in the center of each wrapper. Fold the wrapper over the filling and pinch the edges to seal, creating a pleated effect. Ensure there are no gaps.
- Prepare a steamer by lining it with parchment paper or using a steaming basket. Place the dumplings in the steamer, ensuring they do not touch each other.
- Steam the dumplings over boiling water for about 15-20 minutes or until they are translucent and cooked through.
- Once cooked, remove from the steamer and serve hot with additional soy sauce or a dipping sauce of your choice.
