Sloppy Joe Baked Potato Delicious Family Meal Idea
Ingredients
- 4 large russet potatoes
- 1 lb ground beef or turkey
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup tomato sauce
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- to taste salt and pepper
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 4 fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
- as needed butter (for topping)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Wash the russet potatoes thoroughly and poke several holes in each potato with a fork. Place them directly on the oven rack and bake for about 45-60 minutes, or until tender.
- In a large skillet, heat a tablespoon of oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, sautéing until the onion is translucent.
- Add the ground beef or turkey to the skillet. Break it apart with a spatula and cook until browned and fully cooked. Drain any excess grease.
- Stir the tomato sauce, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, chili powder, salt, and pepper into the skillet with the meat mixture. Allow it to simmer for about 5-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until heated through and flavors meld.
- Once the potatoes are done, remove them from the oven and let them cool slightly. Carefully cut a slit down the top of each potato and gently squeeze the sides to open them up.
- Fluff the insides of each potato with a fork and add a small pat of butter.
- Spoon the sloppy joe mixture generously inside each baked potato and top with shredded cheddar cheese.
- Return the stuffed potatoes to the oven for an additional 5-10 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Remove from the oven and garnish with chopped parsley before serving.
💡 Chef's Notes
Serve the sloppy joe baked potatoes on individual plates with a sprinkle of extra parsley for color. A side of pickles or a simple green salad pairs nicely for a refreshing contrast.
