Ingredients

For the Brownie Layer:

1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

1 cup granulated sugar

1/2 cup brown sugar, packed

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon baking powder

For the Cookie Layer:

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1/2 cup brown sugar, packed

1 large egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 cup chocolate chips (semi-sweet or milk chocolate)

Instructions

Preheat Oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line an 8x8-inch baking pan with parchment paper for easy removal.

Prepare Brownie Layer: In a bowl, combine melted butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar. Mix well until the sugars are dissolved. Add in the eggs and vanilla extract; whisk until smooth.

Mix Brownie Dry Ingredients: Sift together cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder in a separate bowl. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients, stirring until just combined. Do not overmix.

Prepare Cookie Layer: In another bowl, beat softened butter with granulated and brown sugar until creamy. Mix in the egg and vanilla extract until combined.

Mix Cookie Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk the flour, baking soda, and salt, then slowly add to the wet mixture. Stir until just combined. Fold in the chocolate chips.

Assemble Layers: Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading it evenly. On top, spoon the cookie dough by tablespoonfuls, allowing some brownie batter to peek through.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs (not wet batter).

Cool and Serve: Allow the brookie to cool in the pan for about 15 minutes before lifting it out using the parchment paper. Cut into squares and enjoy!
