While the ham itself is a showstopper, it is undeniably the glaze that elevates it to a whole new level. A glaze serves multiple purposes: it enhances the flavor profile, adds a beautiful sheen, and creates a visually appealing exterior that entices guests even before they take their first bite. The combination of brown sugar, spices, and other complementary ingredients creates a delectable crust that contrasts the savory, juicy meat underneath. The result is a dish that not only tastes incredible but also looks stunning on the dining table.

Ingredients

1 fully cooked bone-in ham (about 6-8 pounds)

1 cup brown sugar, packed

1/2 cup honey

1/4 cup Dijon mustard

1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon ground ginger

1/4 teaspoon ground cloves

Freshly cracked black pepper to taste

Whole cloves for studding (optional)

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C).

Place the ham in a large roasting pan, flat side down. If desired, use toothpicks or whole cloves to stud the surface of the ham for a decorative effect.

In a medium bowl, mix together the brown sugar, honey, Dijon mustard, apple cider vinegar, ground cinnamon, ginger, cloves, and black pepper until smooth. This will be your glaze.

Using a basting brush, generously apply the glaze over the surface of the ham, ensuring you get into any nooks and crannies.

Cover the ham loosely with aluminum foil to prevent it from drying out.

Bake in the preheated oven for about 15 minutes per pound, or until heated through (20-25 minutes if using a glazed ham). Uncover the ham during the last 30 minutes of cooking time to allow the glaze to caramelize and crisp up a bit, basting frequently with any pan juices.

Once heated through and caramelized, remove the ham from the oven and let it rest for about 15 minutes before slicing. This helps the juices redistribute.

Slice the ham into thick slices and serve warm, drizzled with any remaining glaze from the pan.

                  Prep Time: 15 minutes | Total Time: 2.5 hours | Servings: 10-12

                    - Presentation Tips: Arrange the slices on a large platter and garnish with fresh herbs like rosemary or thyme for a festive look. You can also serve with seasonal fruits like sliced oranges or apples on the side for color and flavor contrast.
