Ingredients

1 ciabatta roll (or a baguette)

1 large ripe tomato, sliced

1 ball of fresh mozzarella, sliced

1 handful of fresh basil leaves

2 tablespoons balsamic glaze

1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil

Salt and pepper to taste

A pinch of crushed red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

Begin by slicing the ciabatta roll in half horizontally. If using a baguette, cut it into manageable sections and slice them open.

Drizzle the inside of each half with extra virgin olive oil for added flavor.

Layer the fresh mozzarella slices evenly on the bottom half of the bread.

Next, stack the tomato slices on top of the mozzarella. Season with salt, pepper, and a sprinkle of crushed red pepper flakes, if using, to add a little heat.

Add a generous amount of fresh basil leaves over the tomatoes, allowing them to cascade slightly for a rustic feel.

Drizzle the balsamic glaze generously over the basil and tomatoes to enhance the overall flavor.

Close the sandwich with the top half of the bread (ciabatta or baguette) and gently press it down to compact the ingredients.

For an added touch, you may toast the sandwich in a grill pan or sandwich press for 3-5 minutes, or until golden brown and the cheese is slightly melted.

Slice the sandwich in half diagonally for an appealing presentation.
