4 large russet potatoes, thinly sliced

2 cups cooked ham, diced

1 medium onion, finely chopped

3 cups sharp cheddar cheese, grated

2 cups heavy cream

1 cup whole milk

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

1 teaspoon dried thyme

Salt and pepper to taste

3 tablespoons butter

Instructions
 

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

    In a large baking dish (at least 9x13 inches), layer half of the sliced potatoes evenly across the bottom.

      Evenly distribute half of the diced ham over the potatoes, followed by half of the chopped onion and half of the cheddar cheese.

        In a mixing bowl, combine the heavy cream, whole milk, garlic powder, onion powder, dried thyme, salt, and pepper. Whisk together until well mixed.

          Pour half of the cream mixture over the layered ingredients in the baking dish.

            Repeat the layering process with the remaining potatoes, ham, onion, and cheddar cheese, and then pour the remaining cream mixture over the top.

              Dot the top with small pieces of butter to enhance flavor.

                Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes.

                  After 45 minutes, remove the foil and bake for an additional 20-30 minutes or until the potatoes are tender and the top is golden brown and bubbly.

                    Let it cool for 10 minutes before slicing into portions.
