To make an easy guacamole recipe, start with ripe avocados. They provide the creamy base that makes guacamole special. Look for avocados that feel soft when you press them gently. Avoid hard avocados, as they won't mash well.

Ingredients

3 ripe avocados

1 medium tomato, diced

1 small red onion, finely chopped

1 jalapeño pepper, deseeded and minced

2 cloves garlic, minced

Juice of 1 lime

1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped

Salt to taste

Freshly cracked black pepper to taste

Optional: 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin for an extra kick

Instructions

Cut the avocados in half, remove the pit, and scoop the flesh into a mixing bowl.

Mash the avocados using a fork or a potato masher to your desired level of creaminess.

Add the diced tomato, chopped red onion, minced jalapeño, and minced garlic to the bowl with the avocado.

Squeeze the lime juice over the mixture to add flavor and prevent browning.

Stir in the chopped cilantro, and season with salt and freshly cracked black pepper. If you like, add the ground cumin for extra depth of flavor.

Mix gently until all ingredients are combined, being careful not to over-mash.

Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary. If you want more lime, feel free to add a bit more juice.

Serve immediately or cover tightly with plastic wrap (pressing it directly on the surface of the guacamole) to refrigerate until ready to serve.
