Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, nutmeg, and cinnamon; set aside.
In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
Add the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract to the butter mixture, and mix until fully combined.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
Chill the dough in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes to make it easier to handle.
Once chilled, scoop tablespoons of dough and roll them into balls. Place them on the prepared baking sheets, spaced about 2 inches apart.
Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. The centers may look slightly underbaked, but they will firm up as they cool.
Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
For the icing, whisk together the powdered sugar and milk in a small bowl until smooth. Drizzle over cooled cookies as desired.
Notes
Arrange the cookies on a festive platter and optionally sprinkle some extra nutmeg on top of the icing for a charming holiday touch.
