To make a great garlic butter pasta recipe, you need fresh and simple ingredients. The main star is the pasta. I love using spaghetti, but you can choose any type you like. The texture of the pasta can change how the sauce clings. Thicker pasta holds more sauce, while thinner pasta gives a lighter feel to the dish.

Ingredients

12 oz spaghetti (or pasta of your choice)

1/2 cup unsalted butter (1 stick)

6 cloves garlic, minced

1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (adjust to taste)

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped

Zest of 1 lemon

Salt and pepper to taste

Optional: Cherry tomatoes and spinach for garnish

Instructions

Cook the Pasta: In a large pot of boiling salted water, add the spaghetti and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Reserve 1 cup of pasta water, then drain the pasta and set aside.

Prepare the Garlic Butter: In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Once melted, add the minced garlic and red pepper flakes, cooking for about 2-3 minutes until the garlic becomes fragrant but not browned.

Combine Ingredients: Add the drained pasta to the skillet, tossing it in the garlic butter mixture. If the pasta seems dry, gradually add a little reserved pasta water until it reaches your desired consistency.

Flavor it Up: Stir in the grated Parmesan cheese, chopped parsley, and lemon zest. Toss everything together until well-combined. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

Serve: Optional: For a burst of color and flavor, toss in halved cherry tomatoes and fresh spinach at this stage. Serve immediately, garnished with extra Parmesan cheese and parsley if desired.
