Ingredients

1 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 cup unsalted butter, chilled and cubed

1/4 cup powdered sugar

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 cup ice-cold water

1 cup chocolate chips (semi-sweet or milk chocolate)

1/2 cup crushed walnuts (optional)

1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

2 tablespoons cocoa powder

Instructions

Prepare the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, powdered sugar, and salt. Add the chilled, cubed butter and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to blend the mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.

Add Water: Gradually pour in the ice-cold water, mixing until a dough begins to form. You want the dough to be slightly sticky but manageable.

Chill the Dough: Shape the dough into a disc, wrap it in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow it to firm up.

Roll out the Dough: On a lightly floured surface, roll out the chilled dough into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.

Prepare the Croissant Layers: Fold the dough into thirds (like a letter), then roll it out again into a rectangle. Repeat this folding and rolling process 2 more times to create flaky layers.

Cut the Croissant Shapes: Cut the dough into triangles (about 5-6 inches in width), depending on your desired croissant size.

Add the Filling: Sprinkle chocolate chips and crushed walnuts (if using) over the wide end of each triangle. Roll the dough up from the wide end to the point, creating a crescent shape.

Prepare for Baking: Place the rolled croissants on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Brush them with the beaten egg for a shiny finish.

Chill Again: Refrigerate the croissants for another 15-20 minutes to maintain their shapes during baking.

Bake: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Place the croissants in the preheated oven and bake for 15-20 minutes or until they are golden brown.

Cool and Serve: Once baked, let the croissants cool on a wire rack. Optionally dust with powdered sugar or drizzle melted chocolate on top for extra indulgence.
