Ingredients

1 package of mini cocktail sausages (12 oz)

1 sheet of refrigerated pizza dough (about 13.8 oz)

1/4 cup baking soda

1 large egg, beaten

1 teaspoon coarse sea salt

1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup.

Unroll the pizza dough on a lightly floured surface. Cut it into strips approximately 1-inch wide and 3 inches long.

In a large pot, bring about 4 cups of water to a boil, then add the baking soda carefully – it will fizz up.

Once the baking soda solution is ready, reduce the heat to a gentle simmer.

Take one cocktail sausage, wrap it with a strip of pizza dough, ensuring the dough overlaps slightly, and pinch the ends to seal. Repeat with the remaining sausages.

Place each wrapped sausage into the baking soda solution for about 30 seconds, using a slotted spoon to turn them halfway through. This step creates that classic pretzel flavor and texture.

Arrange them on the prepared baking sheet, ensuring there’s space between each one.

Brush each wrapped sausage with the beaten egg mixture and sprinkle with coarse sea salt.

For added flavor, sprinkle the garlic powder and onion powder on top. Drizzle a tiny bit of honey or maple syrup over each one for a sweet twist.

Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.

Allow them to cool slightly before serving.

Prep Time: 15 minutes | Total Time: 30 minutes | Servings: 4 (approx. 12 pieces)

                          - Presentation Tips: Serve them warm with mustard or a spicy dipping sauce in a fun little basket, garnished with fresh herbs for color!
