Ingredients

1 lb ground beef or turkey

1 small onion, finely chopped

1 bell pepper, diced (any color)

1 small can (8 oz) tomato sauce

1/4 cup ketchup

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1 tablespoon brown sugar

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon chili powder

Salt and pepper to taste

1 bag (10-12 oz) tortilla chips

2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

1/2 cup sliced jalapeños (optional)

1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro for garnish

1/2 cup sour cream for serving

Instructions

In a large skillet over medium heat, add ground beef or turkey. Cook, breaking it apart with a spatula, until browned (about 5-7 minutes). Drain excess fat if necessary.

Add the chopped onion and bell pepper to the skillet. Sauté until the vegetables are softened, about 3-4 minutes.

Stir in the tomato sauce, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, garlic powder, chili powder, and season with salt and pepper.

Let the mixture simmer on low heat for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally until it thickens slightly.

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Spread the tortilla chips across a large baking sheet or oven-proof dish.

Evenly distribute the sloppy joe mixture over the chips, ensuring they are well covered.

Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese on top, followed by jalapeños if using.

Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Once removed from the oven, let cool for a minute. Garnish with chopped cilantro. Serve hot alongside sour cream.
