2 thick-cut sirloin steaks (about 1-inch thick)

Salt and black pepper, to taste

2 tablespoons olive oil

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes

1 teaspoon dried oregano

½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (adjust for spiciness)

1 bell pepper (preferably red or yellow), sliced

1 small onion, sliced

Fresh basil leaves, for garnish

Grated Parmesan cheese, for serving (optional)

Instructions
 

Season both sides of the steaks with salt and black pepper.

    In a large skillet or frying pan, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the steaks and sear for 3-4 minutes on each side or until browned. Remove the steaks from the pan and set them aside on a plate.

      In the same skillet, lower the heat to medium and add the minced garlic. Sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant, then add the sliced onion and bell pepper.

        Cook the vegetables for about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally until softened.

          Stir in the crushed tomatoes, oregano, and red pepper flakes, and let the mixture simmer for about 5 minutes.

            Return the seared steaks to the skillet, covering them with the tomato and vegetable sauce. Spoon some sauce over the top of each steak.

              Cover the skillet and let it simmer on medium-low heat for 8-10 minutes, or until the steaks are cooked to your desired level of doneness. (Use a meat thermometer if needed: 130°F for medium-rare, 140°F for medium.)

                Once cooked, remove from heat and let rest for a few minutes. Serve the steaks topped with the pizzaiola sauce and garnish with fresh basil leaves and grated Parmesan cheese if desired.
