Ingredients

1 lb ground beef (80/20 blend)

1 small onion, finely chopped

1 small green bell pepper, finely chopped

1 cup diced tomatoes (fresh or canned)

3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

1 tablespoon chili powder

1 teaspoon garlic powder

Salt and pepper to taste

4 whole wheat hamburger buns

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Sliced jalapeños (optional, for extra heat)

Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

In a large skillet, heat a drizzle of olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and green bell pepper, sautéing until they are tender and fragrant (about 5-7 minutes).

Increase the heat to medium-high and add the ground beef to the skillet. Cook, breaking it apart with a spatula, until fully browned (approximately 8-10 minutes). Drain any excess grease.

Stir in the diced tomatoes, Worcestershire sauce, chili powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix everything well and reduce the heat to low, allowing it to simmer for about 10-15 minutes until the mixture thickens slightly.

While the beef mixture simmers, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Split the whole wheat hamburger buns and lay them cut-side up on a baking sheet. Toast the buns in the oven for about 5 minutes until golden brown.

Once the beef mixture is ready, remove it from the heat. Spoon a generous amount onto each toasted bun. Top each sandwich with a handful of shredded cheddar cheese.

If you like it spicy, add slices of jalapeños on top of the cheese.

Return the sandwiches to the oven for an additional 5 minutes or until the cheese melts beautifully.

Remove from the oven and garnish with freshly chopped parsley before serving.
